The Role:

A Business Advisory Services Accountant is primarily responsible for assisting clients by completing much of the preparation of financial and management accounting reports for review by senior members of the team. Increased practical experience and an improved theoretical base will allow for career progression.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with a Chartered Accounting Firm.
  • Experience with Australian accounting, taxation and clients
  • Expertise in preparing financial statements and annual tax returns for multiple clients
  • Expertise in preparing, reviewing and filing statuary monthly and quarterly returns.
  • Understands all fundamental accounting concepts (accounting equation, debits and credits, financial statements). Can express clearly all accounting interrelationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of computerised accounting packages i.e. Xero and MYOB
  • Basic understanding of tax laws, state taxes and duties relating to resident tax payers (eg CGT, GST, Land Tax, Payroll Tax, general income tax).
  • Comprehension of accounting and taxation concepts and a willingness to develop practical application of this knowledge.
  • Exposure to management responsibilities and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Preferably someone who is completing their CA or is a CA Inter, but not essential.

Standard Responsibilities for Job Designation

  • Apply fundamental accounting concepts knowledge to computerised accounting packages (Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks) and utilise this software to prepare basic financial statements, including the set up of a new client, chart of accounts, and asset schedules.
  • Comply with the client's working paper standards and accounting checklists. Understands principles of applicable accounts presentation and accounting standards.
  • Adherence to standard organisational obligations and statutory lodgment requirements (e.g. annual returns, common forms).
  • Formation and maintenance of client relationships
  • Provision of on-the-job training for other colleagues as required including supervision of graduate work
  • Develop a basic understanding of business structures and intra-group transfers
  • Attends relevant training sessions

Specific Responsibilities for Job Designation

  • Prepare compliance jobs to trial balance stage
  • Identify franking account issues such as franking deficit tax and penalties.
  • Review a client-prepared BAS/IAS and assist with amendment/ correction of system
  • Identify and resolve basic problems arising in client financial statements. As well as understanding and being able to request from clients the required information for financial statement and income tax return preparation.
  • Prepare and analyse accounts, income tax returns, company annual returns, Business Activity Statements, Fringe Benefit Tax returns and notices of assessment.
  • Identify business performance issues and ability to identify key indicators.
  • Begin to identify client needs and value-added services that we can provide to a client.
  • Any other accountabilities or duties as directed by your supervisor which are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training.
